At a time when alternative music fans did not have many options, Steve Gibson opened Columbia’s first big alternative rock club, Rockafellas, in 1984. Gibson helped kick-start the St. Pats festival in 5 Points and is still heavily involved with Columbia’s alternative music scene through the Jam Room Music Festival. Gibson discusses where Columbia’s alternative music scene was, where it’s headed and the struggles of owning a club solely for the love of the music.
